Everton made it four away wins in a row with an impressive 3-1 win at Highfield Road.
A crowd of 11,059 saw both sides cancel each other out in the first half, but a lively second half yielded four goals. England striker Gary Lineker took his league tally to 13 for the season with two and Graeme Sharp scored his first goal in five to seal the win.
With league leaders Man Utd losing at home to Arsenal and second placed Liverpool being held by Newcastle it was a good afternoon for the defending champions.
